Legacy can open doors and start careers, serve as inspiration for others, and leave an indelible mark that can last a lifetime. The 4th Johnny Awards: Johnny at 90 continues this heritage as we pay tribute to a select group of individuals whose remarkable contributions have helped shape the worlds that they are a part of.
This celebration has been made possible through the leadership of Johnny Awards chairman Marissa Fenton, co-chairman Roselle del Rosario-Rebano, and fashion director Raymond Villanueva, with the gracious support of Hans Hauri, president of Bonifacio Landmark Hotel Management Corp., the owner of Grand Hyatt Manila.
Among the distinguished recipients of the signature Tree of Life Gratitude and Humanitarian Trophies were OPM icon Jose Mari Chan who began his remarkable journey with guestings on television with your columnist as host, while electric violin pioneer John Lesaca has redefined the possibilities of the instrument and inspired a new generation of performers.
Culinary trailblazer chef Jessie Sincioco, the country’s first Filipina pastry chef, has elevated Philippine gastronomy through a lifelong pursuit of culinary excellence.
Qualibet founder and chemist Pinky Tobiano has pioneered innovation in veterinary, livestock and food safety sectors. Leonida “Baby” Ortiz of the Philippine Red Cross Board of Governors has advanced humanitarian initiatives.
Helen Lee pioneered electric mobility as the country’s first Filipino wholly-owned manufacturer of electric tricycles while Annie Tan Yee, a trailblazer in the automotive industry, carries the distinction of owning the Philippines’ first Ford dealership in the 1990s.
The circle of honorees is further distinguished by Dr. Michelle Rodriguez, a pediatric oncologist whose contributions to medical education and patient care have brought healing and hope to countless children; Marilou Lao, an agriculture leader dedicated to uplifting farmer communities at the grassroots; fashion entrepreneur Mags Cue has empowered Filipinas through the Miss Universe Philippines organization and her MAGS clothing line; and Maru Go, a new-generation socio-civic leader championing the spirit of paying it forward through sustainable community initiatives. Though their fields are diverse, their stories embody the very essence of the Johnny Awards, creating a legacy that continues to enrich the lives of others.
