De Lima may seek extension to submit Napoles' affidavit

Camille Diola - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines —Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said she may ask the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee for an extension to submit the affidavit of alleged "pork barrel" scam brains Janet Lim Napoles.

De Lima said in a state news report that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is still trying to complete Napoles' sworn statement.

The list of names of those supposedly involved in the multi-billion peso scam is ready to be submitted to the Senate Panel, De Lima said.

De Lima expects to receive the full affidavit before Thursday, the deadline set by the Senate committee in the subpoena issued Monday.

The official also dismissed speculations that she has been tasked by the Aquino administration to purge the list of allies' names.

Napoles' camp had said, however, that the alleged scam mastermind will release the complete list of names independently if the DOJ sanitizes it.

Former Senator Panfilo Lacson, who has a partial copy of Napoles' list obtained from her family, has submitted the documents to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee on Tuesday.

The list, coursed through Lacson, includes names of officials affiliated with President Aquino as well as nine incumbent senators.
