The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Fall Out Boy, which shot to international stardom with its hit single, This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race, will rock Manila for the third time in six years during a major concert on Aug. 8, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Billed as Fall Out Boy: Save Rock And Roll Tour, the one-night-only presentation from MMI and Ovation Productions is part of the American band’s ongoing world tour in support of its latest album, Save Rock and Roll.

It marks its return to the local concert scene four years after its last performance here on Feb. 13, 2009. It staged its Manila concert debut during a two-night, sold-out gig on Sept. 21 and 22, 2007 at the same venue.

Concertgoers will be treated to an array of new and old songs featuring the jaunty and powerful pop-punk-rock sounds that have won the band worldwide acclaim such as Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down, Dance, Dance, Tnks fr th Mmrs, The Take Over, The Breaks Over, I Don’t Care Any More and This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race.

Fall Out Boy was formed in 2001 in Wilmette, Illinois by four young, talented musicians who were originally playing in various underground punk bands in the Chicago area until they got together to create what eventually emerged as the hottest act in emo-pop in the 2000s.

With vocalist/rhythm guitarist Patrick Stump as primary composer and bassist Pete Wentz as primary lyricist, together with lead guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley, Fall Out Boy soon broke out of the underground music scene and achieved mainstream success with its major label debut album, Under The Cork Tree

Released in 2005 as a follow-up to its 2003 debut album, Take Me To Your Grave, the recording garnered several awards and attained double-platinum status after selling more than two million albums in the US and spawning the Top 10 singles Sugar, We’re Going Down and Dance, Dance.

The group earned several recognitions when it was nominated for Best Newcomer in the 2006 MTV Awards and for Best New Album in the 2006 Grammy Awards.

In 2007, the release of Fall Out Boy’s third studio album, Infinity On High, was met with huge success as it opened at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, selling 260,000 copies on the first week and reaching Top 5 charts worldwide.

With the release of its fifth album, Folie a Deux, in 2008, Fall Out Boy continued to evolve its sound with the increased use of piano and synthesizers and with its collaboration with other artists such as Elvis Costello, Lil Wayne, Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco, Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship, Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes, Doug, Alex DeLeon of The Cab, William Beckett of The Academy Is…Debbie Harry of Blondie and Pharrell Williams.

It shared the spotlight with Kanye West and Kid Rock during a special performance at the Youth Ball for the inauguration of President Barack Obama in January 2009.

In late 2009, Fall Out Boy faded away from the spotlight when it went on an indefinite hiatus that it spent re-grouping, searching for deeper motivations and developing new creative inspirations for its music. It resurfaced more than three years, on Feb. 4 of this year, with the announcement of the release of a new album, together with the start of a new tour and single.

The recording, Save Rock and Roll, which features a diverse list of guests that include hip-hop star Big Sean, rocker Courtney Love and one of the biggest names in pop music, Elton John, quickly raced to the top and became the band’s second No. 1 album on the back of its Top 15 lead single, My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up).
