Will forbidden love last forever?

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Come Valentine’s Day, a new young adult phenomenon will hit the big screen — one that may end up being better than the Twilight franchise.

“They’re supernatural beings, they’re not immortals. They’re people who have powers beyond the finite abilities of most mortals,” says director Richard LaGravenese of the Casters, the central characters in the Beautiful Creatures movie adaptation.

Beautiful Creatures is a New York Times best-selling fantasy young adult novel by authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl and the first book in the Caster Chronicles series.

Beautiful Creatures tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers: Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich), a young man longing to escape his small town, and Lena (Alice Englert), a mysterious new girl. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town, which has been hoarding many secrets for many years. It has a strong connection to the Caster world — a place, where many mythical creatures and beings are from and possess powerful abilities.

As Ethan quickly discovers, Lena is no ordinary teenager, and their relationship isn’t just based on attraction but a psychic connection that’s destined to change their lives. He soon learns that Lena is a Caster, a person who can cast spells or use magic, and that on her 16th birthday, she will be claimed for either Light or Dark.

From the company that gave moviegoers The Twilight Saga and The Hunger Games, Beautiful Creatures opens Feb. 13 in theaters worldwide.
