Mario Montenegro topbills Sampaguita’s war picture

Every now and then, Sampaguita produced action-packed war pictures. One of them was Karugtong ng Kahapon (1961), topbilled by LVN actor Mario Montenegro and directed by Eddie Garcia.

‘And the screen explodes into thunderous fury,’ the blurb read, showing Mario wielding a gun and fighting Japanese soldiers.

Sharing stellar billings with Mario were Rita Gomez, Ric Rodrigo, Marlene Dauden, Carlos Salazar and Rosa Mia.

In the ’50s and early ’60s, Mario was dubbed Brown Adonis and cast in drama and costume pictures, mostly for LVN. — RKC
