The bands are also out on Valentine's

SOUNDS FAMILIAR - Baby A. Gil -

Here is good news for all of you out there who want to treat themselves to a show or two but think that the yearly Valentine’s celebration has become too pricey for ordinary guys like us. This is also for those who like their love songs, romantic but also hip and not old-fashioned.

And most of all this is for the kids who will never flunk down their cash to watch some foreign act that has not had a hit in their lifetimes. They can go out and party with the bands and several of them are out on the town this weekend. Here now are the groups and the shows that are going to provide the sort of alternative entertainment that rockers like.

Tops on the agenda is Love2Love2Love. This is a repeat of the hugely successful Back2Back2Back concert from December last year. And the great thing about it is that the ticket prices are not going to break your back. Just think, it is only P2,625 for Patron A; P2,100 for Patron B; P1,750 for Lower Box; P1,150 for Upper Box A; P525 for Upper Box B; and P263 for General Admission.

This one really comes as a big bargain because you will be getting three acts for the price of one. A Viva Concerts and Events production, Love2Love2Love has the same original cast of three of the leading pop bands in the country all together in one show. Side A, Freestyle and M.Y.M.P. are all ready to serenade you with lots of love songs on Feb. 15 at the Araneta Coliseum.

They put on a truly hit-filled show last year so you can expect to enjoy more of the same plus one or more new add-ons. You will surely love listening to Forevermore, So Many Questions, Hold On, Set You Free,  and others from Side A; Before I Let You Go, Half Crazy, Paano, Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang, So Slow  and others from Freestyle; and Tell Me Where It Hurts, Kailan, Talaga Naman, Almost Over You, Especially For You and many more from M.Y.M.P.

Now if you still prefer harder stuff then you might want to catch Pinoy rockers Bamboo, Rico Blanco and Pupil at the Close Up Lovapalooza Red Hot Valentine’s! with the Metro Philharmonic Orchestra at the SM Mall of Asia Seaside Boulevard. It will be held tomorrow, Feb. 14 starting at 6 p.m. and it will be a night of rocking romance.

If I am not mistaken this one is a free Valentine’s party that is open to all. The hosts will provide the festive atmosphere, maybe even the grub plus perhaps some freebies from sponsors like McDonald’s and Red Horse Beer. All that you will need is transportation fare to the mall and the determination to really party.

The sounds will really be fantastic. Bamboo led by Bamboo Mañalac with Ira Cruz, Nathan Azarcon and Vic Mercado had hits with Noypi, Hallelujah  and Tatsulok. Rico Blanco was a Rivermaya frontman who is now on his own with a well-received solo debut in the CD Your Universe. Then of course, Pupil of the current favorite Disconnection Notice, is led by Ely Buendia, formerly of the Eraserheads.

Now if you still want something foreign in your Valentine agenda, there is Boyce Avenue. The boy group is in town to drum up interest in its new album All You’re Meant to Be  and its first single Change Your Mind. And good news again, you can watch Boyce Avenue for free at the malls.

The showcase kicked off last Thursday at the Atrium of the North Wing of SM City in Cebu. Next on tap are the Entertainment Mall Seaside Boulevard of SM Mall of Asia at 7 p.m. tonight; the Atrium of SM North The Block tomorrow, Feb. 14, 5 p.m.; and at the Mega Atrium of SM Megamall on Feb. 15, 7:30 p.m.

They will perform songs from their albums plus covers of tunes dear to the Pinoy’s heart as of this moment like Bleeding Love, Disturbia, Realize, No Air, Apologize, 4 Minutes, Closer, Chasing Cars, Mr. Brightside and many more.
