Smart partners with OPPO
MANILA, Philippines — Smart Communications Inc. has teamed up with OPPO to further explore and develop 5Gstandalone (5G-SA) use cases in the country.
PLDT’s wireless unit said it has been collaborating with OPPO to test compatibility of its 5G smartphones on Smart’s 5G-SA network, as well as successfully demonstrating the potential of voice over new radio or VoNR.
VoNR further elevates the voice and video call experience of users, enabling much better call quality using the 5G-SA network.
Smart fired up its commercial 5G-SA sites in Makati in October last year.
“OPPO is proud to partner with Smart in its pursuit of being at the forefront of the 5G evolution,” OPPO Philippines marketing director Ele Yu said.
“We are committed to continuously provide Filipino consumers with reliable 5G enabled smartphones ranging from entry level to flagship offerings that will enable our consumers to move bigger and do more,” Yu said.
With its collaboration with OPPO, Smart said it is fortifying its leadership in the Philippine 5G space.
Smart operates the widest 5G network in the country with over 6,400 5G base stations nationwide.
It also earlier announced its partnership with Samsung to drive the development of 5G-SA technology in the country.
5G SA technology enables a variety of new industry applications that utilize 5G’s advanced features.
“By maximizing its ultra-reliable and low latency capabilities, 5G SA paves the way for new innovation and opportunities for enterprises and consumers alike,” PLDT and Smart head of technology Mario Tamayo said.
