Abarrientos gets death threats

MANILA, Philippines — The PBA has sought assistance from the National Bureau of Investigation to look into the alleged death threats posed online against Ginebra guard RJ Abarrientos.
“Kino-ordinate na natin ito sa proper authority, in this case, the NBI,” PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said yesterday.
Marcial said the pro league isn’t taking the threat lightly.
“Pino-protektahan natin ‘yung mga player natin sa ganyang mga bagay,” added the PBA exec, who immediately referred the matter to authorities after talking to Abarrientos himself and reading the threatening messages posted after the Gin Kings’ 104-108 Game 2 loss to Meralco Friday.
One of the messages, posted under a fictitious name, threatened to shoot Abarrientos and his partner for missing the potential tying four-pointer that cost Ginebra the match and consequently, led to his P400,000 loss on a bet.
“Grabe talaga mga tao sa social media. Talo lang sa pusta, biglang death threats pati pamilya dinadamay pa. Paki-report! Nakakaalarma na ‘yung ganitong ugali,” Abarrientos wrote on his Instagram story.
“Naglalaro kami ng maayos at trabaho namin ito. Parte ng basketball ang matalo. Sa mga kapwa ko players, di dapat tino-tolerate ang mga ganito,” he added.
