MANILA, Philippines — Four days ago, Filipino Jeremy Miado’s heart was broken with the passing of his father. He didn’t let it get in the way of his dream of becoming a ONE champion someday.

Miado, 25, overwhelmed China’s Peng Xue Wen with a second-round technical knockout victory to end an alarming skid and improve to 7-3 (win-loss) in the prelim bouts of the ONE Championship’s Conquest of Champions at the MOA Arena in Pasay City last night.

“Rest in peace Tatay (father). Maraming salamat sa lahat (Thank you very much for everything). Mahal na mahal ka namin Tay (We love you so much dad),” said Miado, a Marikina City native, on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

Another Filipino bet, flyweight Rockie Bactol, fighting out of Lion’s Head gym, wasn’t as fortunate as he lost to Akihiro Fujisawa via third round stoppage (punches).

It was Bactol’s first defeat in two fights while Fujisawa remained undefeated with five wins and a draw.

Bactol came into the fight oozing with a lot of energy, connecting on strikes and attempted for submission twice to win the opening round.

But Bactol lost steam in the second when Fujisawa took control with his impressive ground and pound.

Fujisawa accidentally hit Bactol’s privates on the three-minute mark of the second round that forced the referee to halt the match.

When the fight was resumed, Fujisawa took control and nearly finished off the beleaguered Filipino, who was saved by the bell.
