No Lastimosa and Rondina, no problem for UST vs Coast Guard

MANILA, Philippines – With team captain Pamela Lastimosa still not a hundred percent and skipper Cherry Rondina busy with UAAP beach volleyball, UST head coach Emilio Reyes Jr. is happy with his "decent" reserves.

Lastimosa, who suffered an ACL tear last year, made her debut Monday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig when the Tigresses rolled over the Philippine Coast Guard Lady Dolphins 25-16, 25-10, 25-23.

The comebacking team captain poured seven points all on attacks.

"Although nasa 60-70 percent na siya, hindi pa naman ganun kabigat yung mga kalaban," Reyes said.

Reyes said he hopes Lastimosa will return to her old form in the season.

"Yung elevation ng talon, umaangat angat lang eh. Hindi pa siya yan, nagsisimula pa lang siya ulit," Reyes added.

Reyes, who is entering his second year at the helm of the Tigresses, lauded the performance of his second stringers.

Carla Sandoval and Chloe Cortez combined for 12 points to make up for Rondina's absence.

"Kung sino yung nandyan, naglalaro naman for UST. Hindi lang Rondina, Laure dapat as a team. Kaya kailangan yung mga nandyan, mga nagco contribute," he said.
