‘The Hitman’ stakes PXC title vs Ordiz

Joey Villar, Nelson Beltran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Veteran fighter Harris “The Hitman” Sarmiento stakes his PXC lightweight crown as he slugs it out with rising star Isaiah Ordiz in the main bout of Pacific X-treme Combat 35 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City tomorrow.

Beaten by Mark Striegl via submission in a non-title bout in November, Sarmiento is out to redeem himself against the upcoming Ordiz in what looms to be a stand-up striking battle.

“Anything can happen in a fight but I came here to win,” said Sarmiento, born in Ilocos Norte but raised in the US.

“I know he’s happy fighting a stand-up fighter. He has good boxing skills. My goal is to give him a good fight,” said Ordiz, unbeaten just in two bouts as a mixed martial artist but is 16-0 as a muay fighter.

Sarmiento and Ordiz headline the PXC 35 that showcases eight other exciting bouts featuring veteran international fighters and top Filipino bets.

Another Fil-Am MMA artist Alvin Cacdac takes on Hawaiian pride Louis Smolka in a flyweight match.

“PXC has been a great opportunity for fighters to gain exposure as well as an exciting show for local fans. PXC 35 brings a mix of international talent back to Manila. When a fighter wins, he gets a shot at a bigger fight, and we love testing young fighters,” said PXC chief executive officer EJ Calvo.

AKTV top official Vito Lazatin said PXC 35 is the kickoff event of a series of fight cards they will present for 2013. “And we want it to start with a bang,” said Lazatin.

Gates are set to open at 5 p.m. with the fights to start at 7 p.m. It will be aired over AKTV on IBC13 via satellite starting at 9 p.m.

Other fights pit Chuji Kato versus Egon Racz, Miguel Mosquera against Steve Grandeza, Dario Banario versus Joseph Mercado, Glen Rabillo opposite Mark Billena, Ronald Jhun versus Zebaztian Kadestam, Tony Reyes against Troy Bantag and Ruel Catalan versus Ernesto Montilla Jr.

PXC 35 is presented by San Mig Strong Ice and Sports 5 and backed by E-Games, Fitness First, FHM Philippines, FHM.com.ph, Premiere Condoms, Healthway Agility Phil, Beer Below Zero, Eden NightClub, Real Sports Radio and Loqal.ph.
