Nueva Ecija routs field in Corporate Cup

-
Omar Dungca, Bong de Guzman and Rodel Mangulabnan powered Nueva Ecija to a runaway Group I victory in the recent 16th Corporate Cup tournament at the world-class Camp John Hay Golf Club in Baguio City.

With Richard Joson and Danny dela Cruz supporting the frontliners, the Novo Ecijanos aggregated 420 points for two days to finish 20 clear of the fancied John Hay Development Co. squad led by its board chairman Bob Sobrepeña.

John Hay squads, however, dominated the other divisions of the 36-hole tourney sponsored by Royal Carribean International (RCI), Northwest Airlines, Camp John Hay Development Corp., Fil-Estate Group of Companies, PLDT Business Solutions, Dynamic Sports Corp., CAP Philippines, Wilson, Le Chef and Intex Telecom Systems.

John Hay Estates, composed of Reuben Payumo, Bill Lawrence, Rudy Lockey, Jay Co and Romy Tio, posted 385 to beat John Hay Manor by 31 for the Group II crown while John Hay Flowers (Eve Aquino, Leonor Cruz, Lenny Cuyno, Cha Diciano and Sharyn Hudson) won Group III by nine over the star-studded Tony Boy Floirendo squad.

Benny Cabrieto, Jo Cabrieto, Ed Co, John Decena and Scott Maner teamed up to give John Hay Springs an 18-point win over Sakura in Group IV, 291-273. The Seniors plum was won by John Hay Log Homes (Jimmy Borromeo, Rep. Mauricio Domogan, Nelson Eslao, Sagat Giron and Bob Paterson) with their 370 output.

Bong Brobio of Samurai emerged the overall individual champion with his 115, denying Dungca (109) who settled for the Division I plum.

The other individual titlists were Joson (102) in Group II, Monet Garcia of John Hay Manor (95) in Group III, Corpuz (87) in Group IV and de Guzman (106) in seniors play.

Tournament founder Cecil Hechanova later led the awarding of prizes to the winners and at the same time thanked those who made the 16th edition of the country’s longest running corporate tournament a big success.
