A thrill to seek: Trilogy Boutique opens in Glorietta 3

MANILA, Philippines - Yes, you read it right. Trilogy Boutique, the clothing and lifestyle store that gave streetwear fans their fix of brands like Obey, Alternative Apparel, and Vans to mention a few, is opening shop in Glorietta 3 (Ground Level, across Landmark) on August 8, Thursday.

What began as a discrete, modest retail spot and canteen along Rada street in Makati has risen to a global streetwear movement in a relatively short span of time. They claim to foster a clothing culture inspired by skateboarding, hip-hop music, street art, and subversive ideals from all over the world. And increasingly over the past decade, as they point out, people in Manila have risen to a greater awareness of and appreciation for this movement. The city has gradually populated itself  with skateboarders, dressed its concrete walls with spray-painted murals, and tuned its ears to hip-hop and punk rock. As such, it’s only right that Trilogy Boutique exists to outfit and equip its fans accordingly.

As the store on Rada shut down early in 2012, plans for a new one down south materialized in November that year as Trilogy Alabang Town Center opened its doors, welcoming the world to a sprawling 750 square meters of shop area. What was once a mere skew for the Trilogy team had dilated into a dedication: Trilogy Boutique brought home not just Obey, Alternative Apparel, Vans, but labels lke Stüssy, Undefeated, Us Versus Them, Illest, Crooks & Castles, Naked & Famous, Unbranded, Hellz Bellz, BotB, GPPR, Mink Pink, and Iron Fist—to name only the more popular few in a gamut of celebrated streetwear brands.

Not long after the Alabang Town Center branch came two smaller ones: Trilogy Unlimited in Robinsons Place Manila and in EDSA Shangri-La Plaza.

This August, Trilogy Boutique is bringing grit and depth right at the center of Makati. The #1224 wildfire has considerably peaked on social media and is slowly inching its way to everyone in the community—beyond the skateboarder niche they first started with.

With all that it’s been through, Trilogy Glorietta finally hopes to put more of a dent and proclaim: We’ve arrived. And we’re here to stay.
