Siargao game fishing tournament set
MANILA, Philippines - The 10th Siargao International Game Fishing Tournament will officially open on April 6 in the island town of Pilar, Surigao del Norte in Siargao island.
“Siargao Island is the surfing capital of the Philippines, now also the game fishing capital of the country,” said Surigao del Norte Governor Sol Forcadilla Matugas during a press conference to launch the tournament. Other activities scheduled for the duration of the tournament include an island discovery tour, cooking demonstration, culinary arts contest and street dancing.
Matugas said at least 20 foreign anglers from Russia, the UK, Australia, Hong Kong and Europe have signified intention to join. Registration is on-going until April 6.
Last year’s tournament saw some 80 international and local anglers vying for top prizes.
“With direct flight almost daily from Manila to Siargao through SkyJet plus additional P10 million from Department of Tourism, this year’s tournament will be the biggest ever to be held in the country,” Matugas concludes.
