A wave of change as Tides reopens

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Tides, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu’s all-day dining outlet, welcomes back loyal diners following an extensive six-month renovation.

The 372-seat restaurant re-opens with a vibrant, contemporary, light-colored interior with a variety of dining sections. Design components, such as stunning art features, wall mounts and a weave-patterned ceiling, engage guests with the breadth and vitality of Cebu.

Tides’ interiors imbue a relaxing, inviting atmosphere – perfect for diners to linger and enjoy its variety of internationally themed stations:

Raw and Fresh – No longer a mere sashimi/sushi station, this station has been so named to reflect the love for the preparation of raw food across all cultures.

Western – This station comprises a range of continental main courses, including meats, vegetables and starches.

Asian – Comfort food from the East and Southeast, carefully curated to reflect the diverse cultures that make up Asian cuisine.

Noodle and Soup – From egg, thin glass to vermicelli, paired with an assortment of ingredients (chicken, vegetables, pork and so on), noodle dishes are symbolic of happiness and health in Asian cuisine.

Kids – A miniature buffet counter holding all-time kids’ favorites has been added in the restaurant’s family-friendly zone.

Charcoal and Grill – Seafood and meat cooked over coals. The main event is the lechon (suckling pig), paying homage to the centerpiece of any Filipino buffet.

Tides’ friendly, bustling market atmosphere features open kitchens where open flame and steam, the wafting aroma of roasts and the clattering of pots and pans meld with the dining room and becomes part of the overall dining experience.

At the helm of Tides is Alvin Jong Tae who joins the Shangri-La group for the first time. As chef de cuisine, he will be in charge of all activities related to the kitchen – from menu creation, kitchen staff management and restaurant inventory to plating design.

“I am truly thrilled to be joining the Shangri-La group for the first time and I look forward to leading the Tides team. As an interactive lifestyle restaurant, Tides’ cuisine philosophy is simple – ‘fresh out of the pan, hot off the grill and right out of the oven.’  We are excited to welcome back Tides’ loyal patrons,” said Chef Alvin.

Tides serves breakfast from 6 to 10:30 a.m., lunch from noon to 2:30 p.m. and dinner from 6 to 9:30 p.m. For reservations, call (63-32) 231-8224 or email fbreservations.mac@shangri-la.com.
