Best of the Week : Ambiguous people, beautiful girls and Sean Kingston

MANILA, Philippines - World Record of the Week: The Country with No Divorce

It’s not likely that the Pope will get married someday and then decide he wants to be celibate again and legalize divorce in the Vatican. So for now, it’s safe to assume that the RH-scared country of the Philippines is the only country in the world that doesn’t allow divorce. Malta, the latest one to legislate marriage dissolution, is 95 percent Catholic and is the last among the EU countries to join the bandwagon. Back in the country, talk is already going on regarding the fate of HB 1799, introducing divorce in the Philippines. The bill has met opposition from different sectors but its sponsors in the House are still trying to talk their way through getting the bill signed into law. Debates are heavy and almost everyone wants their opinions heard, including PacMom Dionisia Pacquiao: “Yong malaswa! Gusto ko yung pakialaman niyo yung malaswaaaa!”

Take 2 of the Week: DOT’s “Pilipinas, Tara Na!”

After the infamous branding fail that was “Pilipinas Kay Ganda,” the Department of Tourism tries to redeem itself this week by launching its new slogan, to be used in the meantime for local tourism campaigns. “Pilipinas, Tara Na!” aims to boost domestic tourism in the country, highlighting the places local tourists are yet to discover. DOT has partnered with a telecoms provider to fund the print ads and TVCs currently blasted in the country, and aims to drive up the tourism revenue by up to 30 percent. Team Manila already volunteered its services in creating the campaign logo, though it’s unclear whether the DOT will be using them. Let’s just hope they don’t stick with the Polish logo rip-off.

Survivor of the Week: Sean Kingston

Fact: Kingston was critically injured in a jet ski accident, but is now in stable condition. News about the Jamaican singer’s death surfaced on the Internet this week, with initial reports saying he died while surfing. However, after an official statement from the hip-hop star’s camp, it was found that Kingston was severely injured when the jet ski he was driving crashed into a bridge. Kingston was immediately brought to the Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment, after somebody called 911.

Sexiest Woman of the Week: Andrej Pejic

We’ve been closely following the developments in the life of androgynous and ambiguous model Andrej Pejic, and here’s what we found out recently: he’s the 98th sexiest woman in the world, according to FHM no less! Can you believe that, Nancy Navalta? Pejic was voted sexier than Lady Gaga (whose penis is still allegedly in hiding) and Victoria’s Secret model Izabel Goulart. FHM since has taken down the blurb about him on their website. Screencaps reveal FHM saying though, “We think ‘thing’ is quite accurate.” and “Well, he might have a hard time keeping it a secret then.” are part of the blurb that was taken down, as if trying to poke fun on his gender-bending looks.

Album of the Week:  Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’

It’s official. Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” album sold 1,108,000 copies in its first week of release, making it the best sales turnout in six years. This also puts “Born This Way” as the 17th album in the history of SoundScan tracking to debut with more than a million sales. Retail giant Amazon sold about 440,000 digital copies of the album for 99 cents, and hordes of fans took advantage of the discount. Amazon.com crashed several times last week due to heavy website traffic, mainly coming from little monsters purchasing the album.
