Box-office hits at Cine Europa

MANILA, Philippines - The 12th Cine Europa Film Festival opens on Sept. 11 in Manila with a powerful selection of box-office hits and award winning European films at the Premiere Theater, Shangri-La Plaza Mall, Manda-luyong City.

Opening the festival is a Swedish film Grabben I Graven Bredvid (The Guy in the Grave Next Door) by Kjell Sundvall, a contemporary love story between a farmer and a city girl.  

The festival features contemporary and critically-acclaimed films from Australia such as Freigesprochen (Free to Leave); Czech Republic,   Tmavomodry svèt (Dark Blue World)and S Certy Nejsou Zerty (Give the Devil his Due); Denmark, Kaerlighed pá film (Just Another Love Story); Finland, Joulutarina (Christmas Story); France, Toi et Moi (You and Me); Germany, Die Blind-gänger (The Blind Flyers); Italy, I demoni di San Pietroburgo (The Demons of St. Petersburg); The Netherlands, Alles is Leifde (Love is All); Romania, E pericoloso spongersi (Sundays on Leave) and Orient Express; Spain, Rec; Sweden, Grabben I Graven Bredvid (The Guy in the Grave Next Door); United Kingdom, The Duchess; and Switzerland, Mein Name ist Eugen (Rascals on the Road).

And following the success of last year”s “Linggo de Lingua Europa,” the European Union Member States’ Embassies together with the Delegation of the European Commission to the Philippines, and academic institutions will hold the Week of European Languages for the second time from Sept. 7 to 12. Academic institutions joining this year include Ateneo de Manila University, St Paul University Manila and University of the Philippines-Diliman as host partners.

The films will be showcased in Cagayan de Oro starting Oct. 2 and Cebu on Oct. 9
