What products should be specifically made for men?

WORDS WORTH - Mons Romulo -

Products are usually created with women in mind, probably because women are the ones who usually do the grocery and shopping for the household. But times have changed. Now, the men are getting to be more and more involved in choosing products that best fit them.

LOUISE YSMAEL, owner, Members Only/owner, Nuvo: Clothes, watches, golf clubs, and maybe toilets that automatically lift the seat up.

STEPHEN KU, president, Event Scape: Luxury pens or computer keyboards  to get the message across that men are not always too plain and simple.

RAYMOND RUFINO, vice president, The Net Group: Fashion and grooming products top the list since our tastes, needs, and preferences are different from those of women.

DAVID KAUFMAN, CEO, Knoll, Baughman, Eames, Saporiti and Zanuso: Men should get a custom lounge chair, as the ubiquitous La-Z-Boy has become an abomination. That’s why we started www.karma.com.ph to offer genuine retro antiques.

LUIGI AVANCEÑA, consultant, Bases Conversion and Development Authority: A Woman-Man Dictionary that has 10,000 entries explaining women’s language and phrases. Also, a Book of Women’s Idioms that will explain to men those intuitive and imaginative expressions that women churn out, especially when they’re mad.

JOHANN RUIZ , managing director, Verbalize It: Men should have conditioning products that are specially formulated to keep hair in place and in great condition even when we sweat and move a lot.

RICHIE SANTOS, VP for merchandising, Cinderella Marketing Corp.: I am particularly meticulous when it comes to my hair especially after playing basketball or golf, so a shampoo that meets the needs of my sweaty scalp would be perfect. It should not be too strong as to dry out my hair or make my scalp oily; it should also prevent hair fall, which guys are prone to.

MARKUS JENTES, PTFJ ad consultant: Men are also particular about shoes. Stylish leather shoes flexible enough for  casual or semi-formal occasions. Good quality may come at a higher cost but comfort is priceless.

DOMINIC OCHOA, actor: A deodorant for men with sweat glands that work double- time. In showbiz the lights used are strong and it can get really warm, so wet underarms are quite common.

GP REYES, owner, Members Only/president and CEO, GPRS Advertising: An over-the-counter pill specifically formulated to extend a man’s patience. It will come in handy while waiting for the girlfriend as she tries on the 50th pair of stilettos. Or while waiting for her “quick” hair color appointment at the salon. It would also be nice to have a “mouth filter,” which is an electronic device that filters out a man’s wrong answers to his girlfriend’s questions, such as, “Do I look fat in this dress?” and “Are you still friends with your ex?”

KIM DAVID, events manager, CTV: I learned from a shampoo commercial that a man’s genetic makeup is different, so we should have products that address problems associated with too much sweating. Products like lip balm and facial spray should have variants made for men because these are usually associated only with women. Also, it seems that products for men have strong scents; there should be light ones, too, especially anti-perspirants.
