Using your own fat for a facelift

SAVOIR FAIRE - Mayenne Carmona -

Rejuvenation is the magic word that draws women to their cosmetic doctors. And mention the term non-invasive technique and you are a winner. For sure, you will attract clients like bees to honey.

Vanity is every woman’s folly. We all like to be beautiful, preferably with little pain, at minimal cost. When Beverly Hills 6750 celebrated their anniversary September of last year, they offered five free Thermage treatments (a non-invasive procedure that takes off years from one’s face which costs P90,000) and other similar non-invasive procedures to the early birds that came when they opened at 8 a.m. At 4 a.m., there was already a long cue in front of the building. This just proves what great lengths women would do to avail themselves of free beauty treatments that would make them look years younger.

“These days, surgical facelift is going out of fashion. Age-related changes of the face and body are now being treated by the use of the body’s own stem-cell PRP (platelet rich plasma) enriched fat,” says Dr. Pierre Clero, prominent French cosmetic surgeon and anti-aging expert. “This method has made possible breast augmentation and rejuvenation of the face without a scalpel. With the advancement of stem cell technology and a wealth of information about the aging process, stem-cell PRP facelift is a complete facial rejuvenation procedure without surgery,” he adds.

I watched enthralled while Dr. Clero showed me the step-by-step method of the treatment in his computer.

Stem-cell PRP facelift represents a process whereby the hidden genetic potential of adult stem cell is awakened. Human fat has been shown to be an excellent source of adult stem cells. By transplanting carefully harvested autologous (your own) adult stem cells fat, any potential allergic reaction or viral transmission is eliminated.

During the procedure, both the donor and recipient sites are pre-treated with growth factors. This important step leads to greatly improve the condition of the transplanted fat.

For my better understanding, Dr. Clero explained it in simple terms.

“I harvest fat cells and stem cells by doing a small liposuction of the stomach. Then I extract blood from the patient (like having a blood test) from which the platelet-rich-plasma is extracted. The PRP contains the growth factors. Then I mix it with the fat and stem cells and inject the mixture in the mesoderm layer of the face. This new approach of “transplanting” adult stem cells within the face with specific stem cell growth factors is a revolutionary technique of facial rejuvenation.”

A Swiss laboratory supplies the tubes containing the special gel to be able to separate the growth factors. They also supply the activator.

Adult stem cells are known to be a source of producing other “hormone-like” substances to enhance both skin quality and the underlying subcutaneous-fatty tissue of the cheeks, the mid face, and the skin in general. The result is a long-term marked improvement that enhances both skin quality as well as underlying youthful contours of the face.

The procedure is accomplished under local anesthesia in about one hour in the doctor’s office. Downtime takes about a week wherein the client is advised not to put on makeup. The result is an extremely natural, full-rested facial contour.

The stem-cell-PRP facelift may also eliminate the need for ongoing facial “fillers” injection like restylane, juvederm, and other hyaluronic acid fillers.

“For those who don’t need the Stem-Cell-PRP Facelift but need a reliable technique to rejuvenate their skin, I use the growth factors injected in the mesoderm layer of the skin to rejuvenate the skin and eliminate wrinkles. It also evens out the coloration of the skin. This technique I call the PRP Mesoglow. One to two sessions maximum (six weeks' interval) are needed to achieve a magical result. No downtime, painless, no side effect because the biological material used comes from your own body. I also use this technique to prevent hair loss for men and women. The growth factors trigger the stem cells and induce hair growth.”

With all these advance non-invasive techniques, there is no reason for men and women who can afford it not to look their best.
