Pia Wurtzbach gets tested for HIV

MANILA, Philippines - Upholding her commitment to advocate HIV Awareness, Pia Wurtzbach got herself tested for HIV.

Community healthcare provider APICHA Community Health Center shared a photo of Wurtzbach droppin by by their clinic on Monday.

The caption reads:

Her first HIV test was held in advance of the National HIV Testing Day.

“In order to get the HIV epidemic under control, we have to have at least 90% of the people in the world who are infected with HIV to know their status, we have to have 90% of those people on drugs, and we have to have 90% of those people attain an undetectable viral load… And that’s why promoting testing as Pia has done here today is so important," Eric Sawyer, Civil Society Partnership Advisor to the Liaison Office New York at the United Nations said in a release published in the APICHA CHC blog.

The website also detailed the test of the 26-year-old beauty queen, sharing that Wurtzbach was tested using an Alere Fourth Generation rapid test that utilized a finger prick to collect the sample. 

After winning the Miss Universe crown last December, Wurtzbach pledged to advocate anti-cyberbullying and HIV awareness. Since her reign, she had been actively participating in HIV/AIDS event to spread the word about it and to end the stigma associated with it.
