WATCH: Pia Wurtzbach asks Duterte for support on HIV/AIDS awareness

MANILA, Philippines - Pia Wurtzbach, in her interview with TFC Balitang America urged the new administration to pay more attention to promoting HIV/AIDS awareness. 

During the AIDS walk held in New York, ?the world's biggest single day fundraiser for AIDS, Wurtzbach had a message to presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte.

"Listening to their stories, I can only hope that this can also happen in the Philippines, especially with the new administration. I really have high hopes that we will see a better Philippines in the future," Wurtzbach said.

Wurtzbach, who is an advocate of HIV/AIDS awareness emphasized how important it is to get tested and to have the right education to protect yourself against the disease, which affects thousands of Filipinos yearly.

 

Today I learned that AIDS Walk New York has raised more than $143 million for HIV programs and services in the tristate area, and has grown into the largest AIDS fundraising event in the world. In 2014 alone, 30,000 participants, many of whom were members of more than 2,600 corporate and community teams, raised nearly $5 million for GMHC and 40 other tri-state area AIDS service organizations. Glad I was able to participate and witness this. It was very inspirational and I hope to see similar fundraisers as moving as this in other parts of the world.
