Antiaging creams that work

STYLE S.O.S. - Tingting Cojuangco -

Dear Tingting,

Please guide me on what cream to use that’s not so expensive yet works magic.

Laura

Scanning the Reader’s Digest, I chanced upon an antiaging treatment promising to erase the effects of time, sun damage, and pollution.

Consumer Reports tested prestigious antiaging creams for over 12 weeks and concluded that the Olay Regenerist range produced the greatest improvements on wrinkled and sun-damaged skin. The secret ingredient? Amino peptide complex. In the 1970s, Dr. Loren Pickart in the US discovered that copper peptides were extremely effective in healing wounds and skin lesions, reducing the formation of scar tissue while stimulating the skin’s natural ability to remodel itself.

Peptides such as matrixyl, argireline, and amino peptide complex have found their way into antiaging creams and moisturizers. Matrixyl reduces wrinkle volume by over 30 percent after 16 weeks of use. Peptides, on the other hand, prompt the skin’s natural rebuilding process without the side effects. Copper peptides are found in the Neutrogena Visibly Firm range. Matrixyl sederma SA (or palmitoyl pentapeptide-3), is effective against wrinkles like retinol but does not cause skin irritation. It stimulates the production of collagen, which is very effective in repairing sun-damaged skin.

Amino peptide complex, the star ingredient of P&G’s Olay Regenerist line, combines peptides with vitamins B and E to promote cell renewal.

Argireline, a peptide that’s also known as acetyl hexapeptide-8, is often used in beauty creams that claim to work like botox. It is found in Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Plump Perfect Makeup ($58), ModelCo Erase Those Fine Lines ($42), and Face-Lift Hydrating Face and Neck Mask ($29).

Poly-collagen peptides, exclusive to Estee Lauder, claim to stop the skin’s enzymes from deleting the effect of peptides on wrinkles. They’re found in Estee Lauder Perfectionist CP+ Correcting Serum ($90).

Big Arms, Small Bust

Dear Rissa,

I’m 22 years old, with white complexion, and quite petite at 5’2. I have a problem with my arms — they’re kinda big — and I have broad shoulders. I weigh 45 kg. and wear a 32A bra. Because I have  small boobs, my broad shoulders are more emphasized. What should I wear and shouldn’t wear? I want to hide this imperfection.

G

For broad shoulders, you definitely have to avoid shoulder pads or tops with even light padding. Beware of anything with detailing along the shoulders because this will further draw the eyes to your problem area. Thin straps or no straps can also be problematic for your broad shoulders. The trick is to go for tops which draw attention towards the neck and face — consider halters, v-necks, and scoop necks. Since you have a small bust, you can also get away with the most romantic ruffles, wide bertha collars, pockets, and peasant shirts. Pockets and other trimmings on the bust lend visual impact. Attractive jewelry on the base of your neck will also draw the eyes upward. To also give your height some extra inches, keep your trouser legs slim and straight to help create the illusion of height. Avoid wide-legged pants and skirts below the knee — they’ll only cut you in half. Avoid wearing cuffed trousers. Even a small cuff will cut your height. Good luck!

Tailored Shirts That Are Fit To A T

Hi, Lucy!

Where do you get your tailored shirts? I see pictures of you in magazines, taken on different occasions, and you’re often in really nice tailored shirts. Where do you get them?

Sunshine

That is not difficult to answer because I only have three brands hanging in my closet as far as tailored shirts are concerned. I buy from Paul Smith, I order from Randy Ortiz, or I have them custom-made by a tailor in Hong Kong whom I know as Uncle Sam.They may be a bit pricey, but the fit is always spot on and you can keep them forever. Tailored shirts are always a smart clothing investment. Quality always over quantity, remember that.
