MANILA, Philippines - Now in its sixth year, Art+ magazine (formerly Contemporary Art Philippines) partners with Power Plant Mall for “Art in Transit: Modern and Contemporary Art Festival” on view until Aug. 17 at the North and South Courts of Power Plant.

The festival highlights the best of Philippine art as selected and curated by the editorial team of Art+ magazine: National Artists Abdulmari Imao, Arturo Luz, and Federico Aguilar Alcuaz; Presidential Medal of Merit winner Juvenal Sans; modernists Justin Nuyda, Raul Isidro, Ramon Orlina, Angelito Antonio and Eduardo Castrillo; as well as contemporary artists Michael Cacnio, Daniel Dela Cruz, Dominic Rubio, Carlo Ongchangco, Vincent de Pio and Aileen Lanuza.

Starting today until July 13, an exhibition at the North Court called “The Masters of Modernism and National Artists” features works by Imao, Luz, and Alcuaz joining works by sculptors Ramon Orlina and Eduardo Castrillo. At the South Court that week will be an exhibit called “Classic Sanso,” which represents the very best of Sanso.

From July 14 to 20, the North Court will hold “Masters of Genre,” an exhibition of works by Dominic Rubio, Angelito Antonio, sculptor Michael Cacnio, and the late Mario Parial. Over at the South Court will be an exhibition of emerging genre artists Jovan Benito, Aljo Pingol, Francis Nacion, Richard Arimado, and Jef Cablog.

“The Best of Contemporary Art” follows from July 21 to 27 at the Power Plant’s North Court featuring works of Vincent de Pio, Aileen Lanuza, Dominador Laroza, Jaspher Penuliar, Reybert Ramos, Almer Moneda, Camille dela Rosa, Gilbert Semillano, Pro Gelladuga, and Rob Lucas.

The North Court will feature “Whimsical Contemporary Artists” from July 28 to Aug. 3 with narrative art influenced by children’s literature, mythology and pop culture from artists such as Edwin Tres Reyes, Carlo Ongchangco, Francis Nacion, Jomar Delluba, Anthony Palo, and Migs Villanueva. From Aug. 4 to 11, “Focus on Abstract” will be held at the North Court with works by Alcuaz, Luz and Sanso; modernists Raul Isidro, Orlina, Eduardo Castrillo, and Carlo Magno; and emerging abstractionists Aldrino Abes, Karina Baluyut, and Camille Ver.
