Rock Drilon’s newest abstractions at Galleria Duemila

-
Rock Drilon returns to painting after a year of managing Mag:net Galleries with a series of new works in When You Lose, Don’t Lose the Lesson, on view until Feb. 9 at Galleria Duemila. Curated by Bernardo Pacquing, the show is a transitional of sorts for Drilon, who attempts to gradually move into untried directions. The show features shaped canvases, a format he has yet to try, while continuing with his spontaneous style. Drilon studied under the late Dean Jose Joya at the UP College of Fine Arts. He has had 35 solo shows here and abroad. Galleria Duemila is at the SM Artwalk, at the fourth floor of SM Megamall A. For inquiries, call 831-9990 or 634-3261, telefax 833-9815 or 633-6687, e-mail duemila@mydestiny.net or visit www.galleria duemila.com.

Pablo Biglang-Awa continues with his visual experiments on fragmented, anime-derived images and non-figurative styles in his solo show, Remix, on view until Feb. 6 at Mag:net Gallery Makati. The show is curated by Roberto Chabet. The show is a transitional one for Biglang-awa from his last show Green Manga. He also ventures into sculptural forms by incorporating a series of cut-outs of cropped anime images on polycarbonate corrugated board. Although three-dimensional, the works remain two-dimensional. Mag:net Gallery Makati is at the ground floor of Paseo Center at Paseo de Roxas Ave. corner Sedeno St. Call 817-7895 or e-mail magnet@info.com.ph for inquiries.

Benjie Torrado Cabrera showcases his latest engravings in Images Recollected in Tranquility, on view until Feb. 21 at The Drawing Room. The show highlights the use of burin engraving on acrylic plastic sheet which will then be printed on paper to create monoprints. The printed images further extend the picture plane into space by the manipulation of the plates into serial planes. Each plate with etched design, when arranged in regular intervals will create a volume, thus blurring the boundaries between painting, fine prints and sculpture. The Drawing Room is at Metrostar Bldg., 1007 Metropolitan Ave., Makati City. For inquiries, call 897-7877 or 897-6990 or e-mail drawings @info.com.ph.
