How fitness fuels entrepreneur Bryant Cuison
Bryant Cuison, Mr. Fitspiration 2018

Why I got into fitness? I want to get the most out of life and do a lot of things,” shares entrepreneur Bryant William Cuison. He is the co-founder and president of construction firm William Brothers Manila.

When he’s not busy overseeing his company or working out, Bryant really lives to the max traveling, hiking, scuba diving and wall climbing. “I don’t want to go deep into my 30s and not be able to do things that I enjoy doing.”

In the first half of this year, he competed in BodyCon 2018 and emerged as Mr. Fitspiration. He went to the US as a fitness ambassador as a perk. A few months ago, he competed in Musclecontest Philippines just for the experience.

He is living proof it’s possible to do whatever you set your mind to this 2019. Here are Cuison’s tips on maximizing life.

PHILIPPINE STAR: How has fitness made an impact on your career or business?

BRYANT WILLIAM CUISON: I am a very busy person. Managing my own construction firm means that I have to work long hours every day — it is just part of the job.  Apart from that, I have to deal with multiple project deadlines and manage very demanding clients. Staying fit and healthy allows me to manage all the daily tasks properly and make sure that I am on top of everything every single day.

Have you always been this fit? When did you start and what was the trigger?

When I was younger, I had an average body — I wasn’t fat but I was not fit either. As we get older, our metabolism slows down and it gets more difficult to maintain a fit and healthy body.  I see people sporting a “dad bod” — with bulging stomachs and man boobs.  I told myself that I would be fit and healthy in my 30s.

How often do you work out? What type of workout do you do?

I try to work out every day as much as possible, one hour per day.  It is important to do it consistently so that it will become a habit and you eventually won’t force yourself to go to the gym.  It gets imbedded into your lifestyle and you’ll look for it when you don’t do a workout.

For my workouts, I try to mix things up from time-to-time. I do HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), resistance training and some calisthenics work.  Mixing your workout routine prevents your body from getting used to what you’re doing and allows it to get shocked with the new workouts that you incorporate.

What is your diet?

I don’t really adhere to a specific diet — I just try to eat clean, mostly whole foods as much as possible.  When I try to gain mass, I stick to the same diet of eating clean whole foods — I just increase my calorie intake and do the opposite when I try to cut. My diet consists of protein from healthier sources such as chicken or fish.

How do you balance training and competing with your busy schedule?

I try to work out every day during the morning — around 6:30 a.m.  I like to kick-start my day with a good workout before I dive into the work. Going to the gym first thing in the morning allows me to get a more constant workout schedule since you get it out of the way and you have the rest of the day to deal with the daily challenges of work.

What is the best fitness advice you can share?

Staying fit and healthy is a continuous process.  You don’t stop when you’ve reached your goals. Consistency trumps intensity every time.

What is your New Year’s resolution? Are you good at keeping them?

To do my best not to eat too much sweets and do more cardio. I get bored easily when I’m on the treadmill or when I’m cycling.

I think I’m pretty good at keeping my New Year’s resolution. I make sure that I involve my friends and family so that they are aware of my goals. A good support system makes it easier to stay on track.
