Mon Tulfo says report on Romualdez leaving jail was wrong

MANILA, Philippines — Journalist Mon Tulfo said he was given incorrect information about alleged irregularities in the detention of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, November 5, Tulfo said that, with regard to his claim, “no such thing happened.”

“One of the most embarrassing and humiliating experiences as a journalist is to admit that nakuryente ako,” Tulfo said.

“I was fed the wrong report that former speaker Martin Romualdez could go in and out of jail.

Complete with all the details, like riding in an ambulance and the brownouts taking place so he would not be seen going out and coming back in,” he added.

Tulfo’s statement came after the Sandiganbayan Third Division ordered Jail Superintendent Maria Lourdes Pacion and Medical Officer Henry Fabro to personally appear and testify on Thursday about the conditions of Romualdez’s imprisonment.

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology also ordered a probe into the former House Speaker’s imprisonment.

Romualdez is currently detained at the Quezon City Jail in Payatas over a non-bailable plunder charge involving P7.44 billion linked to flood control projects.
