MANILA, Philippines — Tropical cyclone Bising (international name: Surigae) has intensified into a typhoon hours after entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday morning, state weather bureau PAGASA reported in its latest bulletin.

The typhoon, last spotted 960 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, now packs winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 160 kph.

What to expect

PAGASA said Signal No. 1 may be hoisted over Northern Samar and Eastern Samar as early as tonight in anticipation of strong winds brought by Bising.

While it is expected to steadily intensify over the next three days, it is unlikely that it will make landfall in any part of the country, according to PAGASA.
