LIST: Road closures, alternate routes for Black Nazarene feast

MANILA, Philippines – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday released the traffic advisory and announced the closed roads and alternate routes to give way for the procession of the Black Nazarene on Saturday, January 9.

MMDA said closure of some streets will be in effect as the procession approaches and will be opened immediately once the tail end of the procession passes.

Aside from road closures and alternate routes, all buses coming from southern part of Manila using Taft Avenue are advised that they are not allowed to enter from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and allowed only up to President Quirino Avenue as their turning point.

Millions of devotees of the Black Nazarene are expected to join the procession which will start at the Quirino Grandstand and end at the Minor Basilica or Quiapo Church.

Roads closed

January 8

Start: 9:00 p.m.

Katigbak Drive and South Drive (one lane – accessible to Manila and H2O Hotel)
Northbound lane of Quezon and McArthur Bridge from Bonifacio Shrine onwards
Taft Avenue from Freedom Triangle to Bonifacio Shrine

January 9

Start: 12 midnight

Stretch of McArthur Bridge, Jones Bridge and Quezon Bridge
Roxas Boulevard from Katigbak Drive to TM Kalaw Street
Both lane of Quezon Boulevard (Quiapo) will be closed to traffic, from Andalucia, Fugoso and Espana/P. Campa for southbound and from Taft Avenue for northbound

Alternate Routes

January 8

Start: 9:00 p.m.

Light vehicles intending to utilize the stretch of Bonifacio Drive and Roxas Boulevard Southbound shall turn around to Anda Circle going to A. Soriano Avenue turn right to Gen. Luna Street to Burgos-Orosa Street then turn left to TM Kalaw Street to Taft Avenue to point of destination.
Trucks and other heavy vehicles intending to utilize the stretch of Bonifacio Drive Southbound shall turn around Anda Circle going back to Northbound lane of Road 10 to C3 to point of destination
Vehicles coming from southern part of Manila intending to utilize the northbound of Roxas Boulevard from TM Kalaw Street to P. Burgos Street shall turn right to TM Kalaw Street left to Orosa Street going to Intramuros left to A. Soriano Avenue to point of destination

January 9

Start: 12 midnight

All vehicles coming from the northern part of Manila intending to utilize the stretch of Bonifacio Drive southbound (Manila Hotel and other offices at Port area) shall turn right Roberto S. Oca Street, left Delgado, left Bonifacio Drive, right A. Soriano to Magallanes Drive, right to P. Burgos, go straight to Lagusnilad to Taft Avenue. Likewise, other vehicles for southbound shall turn left A. Soriano to point of destination
All vehicles using Taft Avenue northbound shall turn right A. Villegas (Arroceros) right Quezon Boulevard
All vehicles coming from southern part of Manila intending to utilize the northbound of Roxas Boulevard from TM Kalaw to P. Burgos shall turn right to TM Kalaw
Vehicles coming from Quezon City using the stretch of Espana shall turn right to P. Campa left to Andalucia, right to Fugoso, right to T. Mapua to point of destination
Vehicles coming from España intending to proceed to South Pier Zone shall turn left to Nicanor Reyes, right to Recto straight to JAS, left to Reina Regente take Jones Bridge to point of destination.
Vehicles coming from Divisoria intending to Utilize the stretch of Recto shall turn left to T. Alonzo, right to Fugoso, left Andalucia to point of destination
Vehicles coming from Legarda shall turn right to Recto or left to Mendiola to their point of destination
Vehicles coming from Caloocan utilizing Rizal Avenue, shall turn right to Fugoso or CM Recto to point their of destination
Heavy vehicles or cargo trucks coming from the south shall take Pres. Osmeña, right to Pres. Quirino to Nagtahan via AH Lacson to Capulong (vice-versa) or to utilize stretch of Road-10 or Roxas Boulevard (vice-versa) to pint of destination
