Jake Cuenca shares how he courted Rabiya Mateo
MANILA, Philippines — Jake Cuenca revealed that he and Rabiya Mateo only officially became a couple last May after he courted her for three months.
The actor admitted this in his interview on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" recently, where he also shared how their love story began.
"Kami na," Jake said when asked about the status of his relationship with Rabiya.
“I’m really, really proud to say it. She’s an amazing woman, incredible woman and very intelligent,” he added.
The actor said that they made it official when he and Rabiya went on vacation in Hong Kong this last month.
He said he invited the beauty queen to Hong Kong while she was waiting for the results of her medical school entrance exam at the University of Santo Tomas.
“She was nervous kasi she’s on the wait list for UST so she didn’t know if she’s gonna get in. It’s not easy so I told her, ‘Why don’t you come to Hong Kong with me? I have work there,'” he said.
While they were at Disneyland, Rabiya received a text message stating that she had passed the exam.
“It was truly an unforgettable trip kasi du’n ko rin siya tinanong to be my girlfriend. We’re dating for three months and then, finally, I asked her to be my girlfriend officially,” Jake said.
Jake then narrated how he courted Rabiya.
“She’s always definitely been a crush of mine and once tinapos ko ‘yung dalawang programa ko, once I was able to finish my responsibilities, you know, I had to shoot my shot and I messaged her on social media,” he said.
Jake said he started by liking the beauty queen's posts on social media until he sent her a direct message.
“I liked a few of her photos first and then finollow ko siya. And then, nagulat ako she followed me back, and then our conversation started from that,” he said.
He said he was impressed by his girlfriend's dedication, who was willing to sacrifice her career to continue her studies.
“She’s the person who’s willing to walk away from it and go to med school and I find that very remarkable. She just made it to UST Med School, the best... arguably the best med school in our country," he said.
“So, for me, I am very proud of her. She’s going to med school for four years and maybe taking up Masters. For me, parang contrast, na ako sobrang passionate about show business and I’ve been here for 25 years. I find it very refreshing na kaya niya gawin ‘yon. And I find it very admirable na ide-dedicate niya ‘yung sarili niya kasi it’s gonna be a long road.”
Jake also admitted that he sees the possibility of marriage with Rabiya.
"I can see it. I don’t wanna spoil it, ayokong magsalita nang gano’n, but definitely with her, I can really see it,” he said.
“We’re having so much fun, she brings out the best in me, she brings out the kid in me, we bring out the kid in each other actually,” he added.
