Who's your bet to be the next Darna?

MANILA, Philippines — With Angel Locsin no longer be able to play Darna in the movie remake of the iconic Filipino superhero due to a spine injury, the race is on for the next Darna.

Nadine Lustre is being pushed by her fans to do the role. Likewise, Jessy Mendiola is interested to audition as Darna.

Liza Soberano, movie director Erik Matti’s personal choice, said in a previous interview that she will be grateful to be offered the part. Her skin-tight superhero suit in a recent commercial made her fans grow even more anxious to see her in Darna’s Wonder Woman-like bikini. There are also reports of merchandise sold showing her in Darna costume.

The latest actress to have her eyes on the role is Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.

“Pia is ready to save not only the world, but the entire universe!” Wurtzbach’s fans said on social media. They even concocted a hashtag for it, #PiaforDarna.

In a Twitter post, Pia admits that she is a big fan of Liza.

ABS-CBN’s Sunday variety show “ASAP” also released photos of its stars, including Shaina Magdayao, Kim Chiu and Sarah Geronimo, in Darna costume.

“All these ladies have the body for it; it all boils down into acting,” one of the comments on social media said.

“Why choose if it can be all of them?” another social media remark added.

Darna is a fictional Filipino comic book heroine created by writer Mars Ravelo and artist Nestor Redondo.

Apart from Locsin, Darna has been played by actresses Marian Rivera, Vilma Santos, Sharon Cuneta, Lorna Tolentino, Nanette Medved and Regine Velasquez, to name a few, in both movie and TV.
