Tippy plays lead in Grease

MANILA, Philippines - Tippy Dos Santos (photo) has bagged the female lead role Sandy Dumbrowsky in the stage musical Grease. The singer/actress/theater performer headlines this year’s 9Works Theatrical’s production of the musical, which runs from Nov. 15 to Dec. 7 at the RCBC Theater.

“People love Grease. The musical talks to all generations, and the music is easily recognizable. This makes this new assignment more challenging and enjoyable,” says Tippy. “I have super big shoes to fill, but I try not to think about it because this should be fun! That’s what my directors tell me, so I am enjoying it. We are all enjoying working on this musical.”

Tippy also expresses gratitude to her 9Works family for giving her the role.

She adds, “I am overwhelmed with the love and trust that everyone in 9Works has given me. The support, guidance — they all give me that.”

Tippy’s last stage engagement was playing Wendy in Stages’ Peter Pan opposite Sam Concepcion. 

For the new production of Grease, Tippy will be paired with TV and stage actor Guji Lorenzana. The play will also feature comebacking performers Antoinette Taus, showbiz royalties Rafa Siguion-Reyna, Gab Pangilinan and Alexa Godinez, and young heartthrobs Steven Silva and Nelsito Gomez.

“What I love about the Grease cast is that the people are great,” says Tippy. “We formed a family and no matter how tiring rehearsals get, it’s just exciting to go back the next day because you just really want to see everybody.”

The artistic team of Grease is headed by director Robbie Guevara, together with Lorenz Martinez as assistant director, Joseph Tolentino as musical director for instrumentation, Sweet Plantado-Tiongson as musical director for vocals and Arnold Trinidad and Francis Matheu as choreographers.

“What you will see this November is very different. It’s not going to be the same show. It’s going to be younger, a different kind of energy,” said director Robbie.
