Hair Asia holds Salon Spectacular 2012

MANILA, Philippines - Hair Asia founder Evelyn Alvaran-Cruz intends to honor her friend and mentor, Vidal Sassoon, during the upcoming Salon Spectacular 2012.

Salon Spectacular: Battle of the Champions is one of two prestigious bi-annual hair and make-up competitions organized by Hair Asia, which Cruz founded in 1989.

Cruz says, “Hairdressing, not only in the Philippines but all over the world, would not be what it is now without the revolutionary concepts introduced by Vidal Sassoon.”

She continues with, “It is only fitting that Hair Asia pays tribute to a man whose brilliance with the shears, passion for perfection and courage to be different opened up such wondrous possibilities for hairdressers today and generations to come.”

The special memorial program will include a special screening of Vidal’s biopic, Vidal Sassoon: The Movie, a photo gallery that commemorates his life, works and achievements, and finally, an extravagant Hair Show celebrating Vidal Sassoon’s vision, art and philosophy featuring top Filipino hairdressers who were educated in Sassoon Academies all over the world — Jesi Mendez, Pin Antonio, Angelo Justin, Andrea Zulueta and Jude Hipolito, just to name a few.

In keeping with the homage, the grand prize that awaits the overall champion is the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take a short Creative Salon Course at the Sassoon Academy in London, England. The prize will also cover the deserving winner’s roundtrip airfare and accommodations while in London.

 The short-course scholarship to the London Sassoon Academy is a departure from prizes of previous years wherein courses awarded to grand champions were always taken at the Sassoon Academy in Shanghai.

“The Sassoon Academy in Mayfair, London is among the first to have been established by Vidal, and therefore, one of the most historically significant, so I felt that it would be extra special if this year, we would have the Hair Asia champion take his course there,” says Cruz.

The priceless opportunity to fly to London and walk the very grounds frequented by Vidal Sassoon himself is expected to push Salon Spectacular competitors to overdrive as they vie to outdo each other, as well as boost competition enlistment.
