The love song of Mameng & Roger
There’s no offscreen romance between Carmen Rosales and Rogelio de la Rosa, but their onscreen chemistry is such that their loveteam was the most popular in the ‘40s up to the early ‘50s.
Their starrers include Panambitan (1941), where Roger serenades Mameng with a love song. Mameng, in turn, sings to Roger. Later they break into a romantic duet, thrilling their countless fans, wishing they’d end up in real life.
It didn’t really matter as the tandem made hit after hit through the years.
Gerry de Leon directed Panambitan for Sampaguita, the home studio of Mameng and Roger.
