Spotlight announces workshops

Spotlight Artists Centre (SAC) welcomes the new year with a new line-up of workshops. Musical Theater Levels 1 & 2, which tackle Voice, Acting, and Dancing, are open to those who wish to develop and enhance talents and skills in the performing arts.

Musical Theater Level 1 is a five-month program for beginners and aspiring theater performers. Classes are ongoing every Saturday. Kids’ classes are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. while teens to adults’ classes are from 1 to 5 p.m.

Musical Theater Level 2 is a three-month program for budding theater performers with theater experience who have undergone theater workshops. Classes will start on Jan. 27, and participants will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Last year’s Musical Theater Batch 2008 had its successful culminating activity at the Podium Mall last Dec. 6. The students performed excerpts from Broadway shows like Mamma Mia!, Annie, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Wicked and many more.

The Integrated Acting/Scriptwriting/Directing Workshop under Nestor Torre also had its successful culminating activity called Works in Progress last Oct. 29. Workshoppers Miriam Quiambao, Mike Sandejas and Lorenzo Mara delighted the SRO crowd with their superb performances.

Spotlight Artists Centre, established in May 2008, is a performing arts school that aims to cultivate the musical and theatrical talents of Filipinos of all ages for their professional and personal development. Envisioned by international performing artists Robert and Isay, in collaboration with entrepreneurial and artistic partners Carl Balita, Tricia Jimenez, Noni Buencamino and Kenneth Cataylo, Spotlight Artists Centre offers individualized and results-oriented sessions that nurture the potential of individuals and groups. It features curricula and trainings that are rooted on the harmony of theoretical knowledge derived from schooling and decades of actual professional performances of the proponents and the facilitators.

Spotlight Artists Centre also offers individual lessons in Voice, Guitar, Piano, Violin, Drums and other musical instruments. Spotlight Kids-Creativity Play through Music and Dance is a workshop designed for toddlers to preschoolers that introduces folk dances and ethnic instruments, alongside nursery rhymes and dances.

The centre also has a band rehearsal room that boasts of 23 sq. meters rehearsal space with Sorba Acoustic Panels for sound isolation and the latest brand new studio equipment with digital recording for rehearsal purposes.

For summer 2009, in addition to individualized courses, SAC also offers Musical Theatre Workshops, Street Dance/Hip-Hop, and Ballroom Dance.
