MANILA, Philippines — Telco-to-tech giant Globe Telecom Inc. lost its main cybersecurity leader, as he is stepping away not just from the company, but from the corporate sector.

Globe said that its chief intelligence and trust officer (CITO) Anton Bonifacio is resigning from his role, as well as from the corporate world, effective Jan. 1, 2027.

Bonifacio took the CITO position only three months ago in July, expanding his executive role at the telco after starting out as its chief information security officer (CISO).

Globe attributed its cybersecurity development to Bonifacio’s genius. The telco credited him for establishing a security network that protected both physical and digital infrastructure.

Furthermore, Bonifacio was credited with building Globe’s ability to anticipate emerging threats. In 2024, the telco appointed Bonifacio as its chief artificial intelligence officer, recognizing that automation would soon be part of Filipinos’ daily lives.

In this capacity, Bonifacio linked Globe’s ambition to connect as many people as possible with rising AI technologies. He also crafted both the telco’s adoption strategy and responsible governance.

Recently, Globe created a new role for him, converging AI, data, cybersecurity and privacy leadership into one – the CITO.

The role, Globe said, embodies Bonifacio’s values in the tech industry, where digital innovation must align with accountability and trust.

“Bonifacio represented Globe in important conversations with technology and tech leaders, both here and in the global space, bringing a perspective that is technically rigorous, deeply practical, but always distinctly human,” Globe said.

With Bonifacio exiting Globe, he will be succeeded by Globe’s current CISO, Garrett Silao, who has worked for Globe since 2008, starting as an information security engineer.

Afterward, he was appointed security operations center head in 2015 and developed Globe’s internal cybersecurity response. He has been designated CISO recently in place of Bonifacio.

Silao will serve as officer in charge upon Bonifacio’s exit, reporting to Globe president and CEO Carl Raymond Cruz.

“As Bonifacio transitions, AI, data, cybersecurity, privacy and digital trust will remain central to Globe’s transformation and long-term growth,” Globe said.
