Globe: No more limit on 5G data for prepaid subscribers

MANILA, Philippines — Globe Telecom Inc. is taking another step toward bridging the digital gap by removing the data cap on 5G for prepaid subscribers, easing their access to high-speed internet.

The telco yesterday said it is ending the data restriction of eight gigabytes for 5G use in its flagship prepaid Go Plus load option.

Globe prepaid users subscribing to Go Plus above P149 will now be given unlimited use of 5G, giving the wider market the best technology for web access.

When pitted against the previous generation 4G, 5G extends faster speeds and lower latency that enables consumers to load websites quicker, use apps smoother, among others. Currently, 5G is the best network to tap for online activities, from learning and work, to gaming and streaming.

Globe chief commercial officer Darius Delgado said the telco has lifted the prepaid cap on 5G in support of the objectives of the Konektadong Pinoy Act. The law seeks to expand internet access in the Philippines by lifting barriers for entry for new telco players.

“By upgrading our Go Plus 149 and above promos to include unlimited 5G, we are removing the barriers to high-speed data,” Delgado said.

“This allows prepaid customers to explore the full potential of the digital world without worrying about data caps,” he added.

As of 2024, the International Telecommunication Union estimates that Philippine telcos are able to cover 72 percent of the population with 5G services.

However, 5G adoption in the country remains a challenge for millions of Filipinos, given the higher cost of buying 5G-capable phones. Based on data from telco giant Ericsson, the Philippines is home to more than 44 million smartphone owners, but just 10 million are 5G users.

Recently, Globe ramped up measures to bridge the digital gap, especially in the countryside. Last week, it made history by finally achieving full network coverage, as it entered into an agreement with Starlink to offer direct-to-cell services.

By tapping into Starlink’s satellites, Globe can beam internet to any point in the Philippines, which is going to benefit consumers in remote areas where cellular towers are limited.

As of September 2025, Globe has the largest subscriber base in the mobile segment at 63.15 million, of which 96 percent, or 60.73 million, are prepaid users.
