DTI engages BPI Family Bank to extend support to MSME

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has entered into a partnership with BPI Family Savings Bank to provide technical and financial assistance to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) clients of Negosyo Centers.

Trade Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya said the agreement would open doors for entrepreneurs to help them expand their businesses.

“This is a most welcome partnership as we really push entrepreneurship because not only we are opening doors for would-be entrepreneurs, but we want them to work with our Negosyo Centers,” Maglaya said.

Under the memorandum of agreement, DTI and BPI Family Savings Bank will conduct financial wellness seminars to MSMEs as well as provide them access to financial services.

BPI will also present the benefits of taking up a business loan to expand MSMEs’ businesses.

Ma. Cristina Go, senior vice president and head of retail lending group at BPI Family Savings Bank, said the agreement would encourage more aspiring Filipino entrepreneurs to venture into business.

“It’s our belief that awareness, education on how to put up business will give more Filipinos confidence to conduct more entrepreneurial ventures. Officially, we become the government’s partner through the Negosyo Centers,” Go said.

In line with the agreement, BPI Family Savings Bank is set to conduct financial wellness talk to MSMEs on topics such as basic information on loans, benefits of applying for a business loan, and financial schemes, among others.
