PhlPost jumps into the e-commerce bandwagon

MANILA, Philippines - From the traditional post mail service firm delivering snail mails, the Philippine Postal Corporation (PhlPost) has taken a big leap entering the E-Commerce industry.

The government-owned corporation officially declared Tuesday its partnership with logistics giant DHL Express, reinvigorating PhlPost's international service offering by providing more shipping options to its customers.

The DHL Express service will currently be offered at 12 PhlPost locations, namely: Ortigas in Pasig City, Greenhills in San Juan City, Cebu, Baguio, Sta. Rosa in Laguna, Angeles City Pampanga, Iloilo, Legaspi City, Davao, and central post offices in Manila, Quezon City and Makati City.

Josie dela Cruz, chief operating officer and postmaster general manager of PhlPost, said customers will be able to enjoy the ease of shipping internationally to over 220 countries and territories by simply registering their documents and packages at the post offices.

"We are back on track and there's no turning back," Dela Cruz said, adding the availability of the 24/7 customer service hotline and track and trace capability will give customers the ability to closely monitor their shipments from pick up to delivery.

Dela Cruz also shared improvements in the maximum weight limit of 20 kilogram for packages.

"It will extend over and beyond the maximum weight limit permissible and outside of the existing serviceable countries of our Express Mail Service," she said. "This will enable us to be more globally competitive and ready to serve the increasing demands of our customers."

The DHL Express service offering will cover the following shipments under the agreement, such as shipments weighing 0.5 kg and above that are to be sent to countries currently not covered by PhlPost’s Express Mail Service (EMS) and also shipments sent to countries where EMS is offered, but which exceed the maximum weight that can be accepted.

By year 2014, DHL services is expected to roll out in more PhlPost locations.
