Romero, Sarza shine for Phenom
MANILA, Philippines — Santi Romero and Mark Sarza stepped up and steered the Phenom Bluefire to a 66-62 win over University of Cebu for the Sinag Liga Asya (SLA) Junior World Showcase 23-Under crown at the Cebu Coliseum Sunday.
Sarza spearheaded the attack while the 6-foot-3 Romero, a member of La Salle training pool, anchored the pesky Bluefire defense all throughout the five-day competition. Both made the mythical team.
Sarza collected 15 points and 16 rebounds, and earned the Finals MVP award.
Romero, a former Gilas Youth member, was a monster on defense and a big key for Phenom in being an import-stopper.
During his NCAA days with La Salle Greenhills, he’s No. 2 in steals and also figured well in the business of rebounding.
Held from July 1-5, the Sinag Liga Asya Junior World Showcase brought together nearly 1,000 players from 50 teams.
