Herrera, Cardona reign in Dagupan half marathon

DAGUPAN CITY , Philippines   – Former Southeast Asian Games champion Rene Herrera and Pangasinan’s veteran runner Lany Cardona ruled the men’s and women’s 21-kilometer run in yesterday’s Dagupan elimination leg of the 38th National Milo Marathon.

Herrera finished the race in one hour, 12 minutes, 37 seconds while Cardona took the women’s crown in 1:30:20.

Herrera, a five-time SEAG champion in the 3000 meter steeplechase, and Cardona, from Bolinao town, will compete in the 42K finals to be held in Manila in December.

Herrera was followed by Robino Javier (1:16) and Ronnie Rosete(1:19:38).

Cardona took the ladies crown in 1:30:20 over Cinderella Lorenzo (1:33:27).

The top finishers also got trophies or medals and cash prizes.

Thousands of runners joined the races in the 3K for children, 5K fun run, 10K and 21K run.
