Pumaren named UE Warriors coach

MANILA, Philippines - University of the East has tapped a “true-blooded” Red Warrior in veteran tactician Derrick Pumaren to handle a promising crew that hopes to bring back its glory years in the coming UAAP Season 77 cage wars.

“He (Pumaren) officially took over this morning (yesterday),” the Recto-based university and host of the new season announced yesterday.

UE management described Pumaren as a “true red Red Warrior,” being a distinguished alumnus. Pumaren played with the UE Pages juniors champion team and brought his act over to the seniors where his 1978 and 1979 teams emerged back-to-back titlists.
