Olivarez, Manduriao triumph in Baguio tiff

MANILA, Philippines - Second seed Eric Olivarez Jr. dominated the boys’ 18-under singles, while Erika Manduriao copped two  titles in the 2013 Head Junior Satellite Circuit national tennis age-group tournament’s ninth leg at the Athletic Bowl in Burnham Park in Baguio recently.

Olivarez played true to form to beat top-seeded Joshua Cano in the championship round, 6-2, 7-6 (5), to grab the title in the annual junior tennis national circuit supported by Smart Sports, Chris Sports, Meralco, Maynilad, Toalson and Head.

Manduriao defeated Stephanie Cortez in the girls’ 18-under finals, 6-3, 6-3, for her first crown and made it two in the leg by beating Erika Wayne Cabaldon in the girls’ 16-under finals, 6-0, 6-3.

This is Manduriao’s second back-to-back titles following her 18 and 16-under crowns in the Iloilo leg.

Marcen Cenon Gonzales bashed Eric Olivarez Jr., 5-7, 6-0, 6-4, to bag the 16-under crown.

In other finals results, Cenon Gonzales Jr. also bagged the boys’ 14-under title over Joshua De Guzman, 6-1, 6-3, while Erika Claude Manalo outclassed Kena Bravo, 6-0, 6-0, for the girls’ 14-under title.

In the 12-under finals, Raymund Paris Gabuco defeated Edmund Afuyog, 6-2, 6-3, while Alexandra Eala outlasted Erika Claude Manalo, 6-1, 6-2.

In the 10-under unisex finals, Alexandra Eala shut out Daniel Estanislao, 4-0, 4-0.
