Naval-Olives tops S'woods golf

MANILA, Philippines - Mario Naval and guest partner Tony Olives combined for 182 to nip the Brian Park-Kunio Kanehara tandem by two and capture the Group I crown in the fourth Manila Southwoods Seniors Invitational at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club in Carmona, Cavite recently.

Naval and Olives carded a 118 in the team aggregate format at Legends course to seize control then held on to the lead with a 64 output under the team scramble format on the final day at the hazard-laden Masters layout for a 182 Molave points total.

They won by two over Park and Kanehara, who opened with a 116 then matched Naval and Olives’ final round 64 in the two-day event organized by the Manila Southwoods Seniors Chapter headed by president Jose Cedo and vice president Paco Gonzalez.

Manolo Agojo and Diony Dionisia also put in a 118 and 64 for a 182 then nipped Nicolos Molon and Jesus dela Peña, who likewise scored 118-64, in the countback to bag the Group 2 title in the event supported by  hole-in-one sponsors Yamaha by Kart Plaza, Wilson and Mizuno Sports.

Fred Asunto and Guillermo Viola Jr. also had a 182 (118-64) and edged Mario Badillo and Rey de Ocampo in the countback to annex the Group 3 plum.

Jose Cedo and Porfirio Flores assembled a 168 from rounds of 110 and 58 to beat Rod Pepito and Soo Nam Lee (101-56-157) and bag the Group 4 or Super Senior crown.
