Village watchmen in Iloilo City under probe

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management is investigating reports that village watchmen in Barangay Monica, Iloilo City are carrying firearms.

Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr., Police Regional Office 6 director, said barangay tanods are not authorized to carry firearms.

“I have ordered an investigation and am just waiting for the report,” Cruz said.

Several pictures of men wearing “Tanod” t-shirts and carrying firearms were posted on the social networking site Facebook.
