Soda pop stars

- Bea Ledesma and Patricia Romualdez -
In the hypersphere that is celebritydom, there is a hierarchy to success. The first: turning heads at all the big parties. The second: being dubbed "it" boy/girl/thing. The third: mainstream success a.k.a garnering a fan base. The fourth (and queen bee of the celebrity pecking order): being an endorser. While the other three come with great ego-boosting pluses, only the fourth is accompanied by that oh-so-wonderful ka-ching.

For singer Bamboo and model Nicole Hernandez, they knew they hit paydirt when soda giant Pepsi came knocking. Today, the singer and model can find their faces plastered across any usable surface in stylized sets that reach an almost surreal David LaChapelle degree of funk.

Along with major cutie pie Jericho Rosales and racer Matteo Guidicelli, Nicole and Bamboo represent Pepsi’s new generation. To get a closer look at the latest king and queen of pop, YStyle asked these soda-guzzling gurus to fill in the blanks.

Bamboo, singer

Currently, I am at the starting line.

My greatest indulgence is eating "good" food and court TV.

I’m excited about our upcoming international album release in Asia this 2006.

My next album is My Lips are Sealed.

I want to learn another musical instrument.

People think I don’t get fed well at home, but I’m really well-fed.

I regret not taking school seriously early on.

My secret talent is kaya nga secret, hahaha.

I knew I wanted to be in a band when I was in a hotel in Cebu and I was listening to the CD of The Bends by Radiohead.

Blue is the color of my goddaughter’s eyes.

Living life and family inspires me.

My favorite song right now is Retrospect for Life by Common.

I overuse the word po and opo.

I used to be "most likely to be incarcerated before the age of 21" but now I’m past 21 and as lost as I can ever be and happy about it.

The question I get asked most often is "Why Bamboo?"

If there’s one thing I truly believe, it is forget about the past, don’t worry about the future and just enjoy the ride.

Nicole Hernandez, model

Currently, I am finishing a short course in fashion illustration and working part time for my mom.

My dream job is designing, specifically bridal and evening wear.

People think I’m taray but I’m really not (I’m friendly!).

I want to learn how to cook.

My secret talent is touching my nose with my tongue (hahaha!).

A year from now I see myself in New York studying.

My guilty pleasure is shopping for shoes!

I used to be confused but now I’m content with my life and myself.

My style philosophy is comfort always comes first!

I regret nothing because I am molded as an individual through my experiences.

Blue is one of my favorite colors.

My favorite accessory is a bag by Aranaz.

The question I get asked most often is "How old am I?"

Thinking of my Toto (grandpa) inspires me.

If there’s one thing I know for sure it’s that God is the giver of all our blessings so we must thank Him and give back to the people around us.
