MANILA, Philippines — Halloween is creeping closer, and hopefully it will be the only thing that will be. But there are some people out there willing to test their courage and suspend their disbelief in the unexplainable.

Spotify has released its "Takot Muna" playlist, where topics range from first supernatural encounters, monster origin stories and personal ghost stories.

True crime and paranormal with Filipino humor

A podcast under the BUNK Collective, hosts Gideon Mendoza and Glenn Tabarejos discuss paranormal events, strange phenomena and true crime injected with Filipino humor.

"Creepsilog" recently released its 300th video podcast where the hosts shared the most terrifying places in the country. It was followed by an episode featuring ABS-CBN's Jervis Manahan.

Both aforementioned episodes were included in the "Takot Muna" playlist.

Listeners' tales

Hosts Grace Marcellana and Mimai Cabugnason talk about hair-raising, spine-tingling and insomnia-inducing tales of horror, mystery, true crime and suspense in "Wag Kang Lilingon."

Also part of the BUNK Collective, the podcast is best known for its "Listeners' Stories" episodes wherein listeners submit their own hair-raising tales.

The "Takot Muna" playlist included the two most recent Listeners' Stories, both of them roughly an hour and a half long.

Legendary Filipino supernatural stories

"Philippine Campfire Stories" is a Tagalog language podcast that features local stories of myths, folklore, legends and true supernatural experiences.

"Hearing the stories in Tagalog also helps with the listening experience especially with a background sound imaging that reminisces a night by the forest campfire," reads the podcast's description, as produced by Podcast Network Asia.

"Philippine Campfire Stories" recently marked its second anniversary by inviting the hosts of "Creepsilog" and "Wag Kang Lilingon" to talk about the origins of the aswang. This episode is also on the "Takot Muna" playlist.

Macoy Dubs talks horror

Other episodes on the playlist are:

  • The Bree Jonson episode of true crime show "Lagim" hosted by Christine Abrigana
  • The "PH Murder Stories" episode about Andrew Cunanan, the Filipino-American killer of fashion designer Gianni Versace
  • Content creator Macoy Dubs guesting on "Dead Air" to talk about James Wan's “Dead Silence!”
  • Personal stories sent to "HILAKBOT PINOY HORROR STORIES" and "Nginig Stories"
