Do your laundry without water

MANILA, Philippines - One of the most attractive features of Samsung’s WD-8122 washing machine model is its Airwash System that allows you to clean clothes without need for detergent and water. Laundry without soap and detergent? Yes, ’tis no suds story. With the use of hot air, the technology eliminates odors from clothing so that these smell clean, fresh, and ready to use. The feature comes in handy when otherwise spotless clothes are tainted by the odor of cigarettes or smoke from the barbecue grill. In the dank, rainy season when clothes and beddings stored in the closet are more prone to acquiring a faint yet disturbing moldy scent, Samsung’s Airwash System also provides a quick fix. All that one needs to do is to load the machine, program it to Airwash, and then fold the clothes and linen for storage when the machine has done its job.

However, it is just as easy to launder regular soiled clothing. The front-load washer has been designed to be energy and water-efficient to address environmental concerns. A vibration reduction technology minimizes sound as the machine operates. Thus, scenarios where an improperly loaded washer “walks” across the floor while making deafening noises and disturbing the neighbors is avoided. In addition, Samsung’s top-of-the-line washing machine has a 12-kilogram capacity that allows one to put in bigger loads, so that laundry is washed and dried in no time at all.

“The all-in-one washer and dryer is our flagship product for washing machines,” says Jo-anne Roman, home appliance specialist for Samsung Electronics Phils. Corp. She explains that fabric care is a concern that is addressed by the Diamond Drum technology. “With the unique embossed design of the diamond drum, the holes (used for removing water after cleaning clothes) that perforate the inside of a washing machine are 25-percent smaller and located deep within diamond-shaped depressions. This prevents fabrics from getting damaged.”

The diamond drum features an inverter motor that works without belts or gears. A magic filter ensures better collection of lint, and an indicator light on the control panel signals that the filter is due for cleaning. In addition, an air turbo drying system feature dries clothes in the same machine, so that there is no need to transfer wash loads to a separate dryer.

What especially caught our attention was Samsung’s Silver Wash technology that is touted to “use the natural power of ionic silver to get clothes clean.” We wish we had paid more attention in chemistry class to fully understand the scientific mechanism behind Silver Wash. Thus, we’d have to rely on testing and research data to believe that the technology has a “bacteria inhibiting effect.” From Germany, USA, Korea to England, Silver Wash technology has been tested and certified by reputable centers for its “effectiveness in removing bacteria and its sanitation power.”

A close examination of the machine shows a child-lock feature, an element that indicates Samsung’s close attention to the minutest safety details. And although most people would overlook the child-lock component in a washer or dryer, I have recently come to appreciate its value after a horrifying story related by a friend. He has been severely traumatized, he says, since he stuffed a comforter in the clothes dryer without knowing that the family cat was taking a nap inside.
