4 signs your child needs glasses

At such a young age, it may be very difficult to detect if a child is struggling to see clearly.  But there are various ways to know if our child is having vision problems.

MANILA, Philippines — Good eyesight is of utmost importance for our kids. Through their eyes, they absorb information from the world around them and they are able to learn and understand. That is why it is vital for every child to have good eyesight.

At such a young age, it may be very difficult to detect if a child is struggling to see clearly.  But there are various ways to know if our child is having vision problems.

Here are a few signs of vision problems that may direct you to try and have your children’s eyes checked.

1. If they need to have materials close to be able to read them.

This sign is one of the most common that are seen whenever children have vision problems. Whenever they read books or watch TV, they move closer so that they can see clearer. This can be an early sign of deteriorating eyesight, so if your child exhibits this, it might be wise to pay a visit to the optometrist.

2. If they tilt their head when they watch TV.

Though this might seem like a cute quirk from our children, tilting their heads may be indicative of poor eyesight or other vision problems. This signifies that they need to see what they're watching from another angle. So the next time you watch a TV show together or a movie, check out if your child is tilting his head.

3. If they squint or blink often.

Squinting or blinking more than the usual is another sign of vision problem. This may mean that your child is trying to adjust his eyesight and resorts to rubbing or squinting his eyes even though it offers little help to ease the discomfort that they experience.

4. If they always complain that they have headaches.

This is one of the most common signs for children and even for adults. Headaches can be very uncomfortable for young children, so just to be sure get your children checked up if they often experience headaches.

Frequent trips to the doctor—including optometrists—to ascertain the overall well-being of a child is highly advised as children grow. EO Executive Optical even makes it a fun experience for both children and their parents through the new EO Kids store found at the Level 4 of Shangri-La Plaza. The store is made especially with kids in mind so that children would have a pleasant and hassle-free visit every time they drop by. If your kid has to wear glasses, parents can also choose parent-kid terno glasses, a matching pair of glasses for the parents and the kids.
