Getting kids into sports early

REAL SPORTS SCENE - Anthony Suntay - The Philippine Star

During summer, parents always look for various ways to keep their kids busy, trying to ingrain in them the habit of leading an active and healthy lifestyle at an early age.

With the sudden surge of interest in football, due to the popularity of the national team Azkals, more parents are now open to the idea of football instead of the “more popular” basketball.

The Futbol Funatics Soccer Camp for Kids has been in the industry for quite awhile and has developed thousands of young aspiring footballers.

In the summer of May 16, 2013, they brought the second youth football delegation to Spain for the annual Football Immersion & Cultural Exchange Program (FICEP), which is geared towards giving young football players further opportunities for extensive growth and personal development both on and off the field. Through Futbol Funatics’ international football program, the delegates engaged in intensive football training under Spanish coaches. They played matches against Spanish youth football teams, toured historical and cultural sites in Spain, and were essentially immersed for 16 days in Spanish football and culture. The FICEP program also focuses on teaching the players to become responsible travelers who can adapt to and maximize the numerous experiences provided for them.

This year’s FICEP delegation, which was sponsored by Mizuno, Crocs, Gatorade, Smart, and The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, travelled to Malaga, Granada, Sevilla, Antequera, and Madrid to achieve both the football and cultural objectives of the program.  The Spanish coaches from CEDIFA (Centro de Estudios, Desarrollo E Investigacion del Futbol Andaluz) provided quality training and matches for the Futbol Funatics’ players while simultaneously ensuring that the team had ample time for visits to must-see places in Andalucia, such as The Alhambra in Granada. This year’s itinerary also included watching live La Liga matches of first division teams such as Real Madrid C.F., Granada C.F., and C.A. Osasuna.

An experience such as this will enhance a child’s development not just in the sport of football, but will also teach them valuable life lessons.
