A love note to special parents

-

MANILA, Philippines - Thinking about disability during the month of hearts may be an alien thing for some. However, for special parents, Valentine’s Day is a trying time since many children with developmental disability cannot expressly display their affection for their parents.

People, however, must take note that St. Valentine, being a patron of love, is also a patron of epilepsy. This bit of trivia in this season of love brings warm thoughts of and utmost respect for people with disability.

With this thought in mind, Center for Possibilities, Inc. welcomes the month of love by inviting Inner Peace founder Regina Y. Dee to be a guest speaker at its monthly Parent’s Support Group. Dee has long been helping people discover inner understanding and living a life full of joy. As a firm believer of angels, she encourages people to always be a blessing to others and fulfill their role as angels on earth. She will give tips to parents on how unconditional love can be a powerful, life-changing element in special parents’ relationship with their children. She will also give advice to parents of special children on how to cope with their personal struggles.

Established in 1981, the Inner Peace Foundation is a place where individuals from different faiths meet regularly to learn from each other on how to cope with life. It is a watering hole for individuals in search of life’s meaning — where one can find support and encouragement from fellow seekers as one goes through his/her own spiritual journey.

“I have always believed in angels — the ethereal creatures from the heavens above. But I also believe in humanity’s ability to become angels for one another. In fact, I think that more than anything, angels are here on earth to do just that — to make angels of us, to bring us together in love,” says Dee. “Children with special needs are angels because they touch our lives with their innocence and sincerity, and remind us that authentic love is possible in this world. We, in turn, become angels when we allow the children to inspire us to go out of ourselves and give love.”

The Center for Possibilities, Inc. is a non-profit organization that aims to be a sanctuary for children with developmental disabilities, their friends, and families. Since 2008, this foundation has constantly worked with the goal of changing society’s view and gaining their acceptance towards the beauty and the genius of children with developmental disability.

The Parent’s Support Group will be held tomorrow, Feb. 17, 4 to 6 p.m. at REACH International School, 67 Paseo De Roxas St. Makati City. For inquiries, call the Center for Possibilities, Inc. at 725-5132 or 723-1242. (look for Tina or Jeng).
